What Counts as One Item for PAT Testing?

Our PAT Testing Calculator provides an estimate based on the number of individual items of electrical equipment requiring inspection and testing.

Some equipment consists of more than one part but is still treated as a single item. For example, a cordless kettle and its dedicated powered base would normally be counted as one item, with the complete appliance inspected and tested as appropriate.

Detachable and interchangeable mains leads, such as IEC power leads commonly used with PCs, monitors and printers, may be inspected, tested and recorded separately because they can be disconnected and used with other equipment. Extension leads and similar standalone electrical accessories are also treated as individual items.
